Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM Research is looking for an applied mathematical Research Scientist to join
the Decision Optimization research team, to advance and create state-of-the-
art technologies and solutions using Optimization and AI technologies.At IBM
Research, we believe in combining fundamental scientific and SW engineering
skills, with business opportunity to make a big impact. You will advance
fundamental science at the same time that you bring new innovations to the
market. You will architect and implement Proof Of Concepts, MVPs, and pilot
with customers.We are looking for someone who is passionate about learning new
things and incubating new ideas. Researchers who understand the business use
case and have the necessary SW engineering skills to deliver POCs and MVPs to
customers.Our charter is to find new ways for enterprises to improve their
businesses using optimization and AI technologies.

Responsibilities

Design and develop complex models and algorithms using optimization and AI and
apply them to solve customer problems.

Apply AI and mathematical optimization, including linear programming, integer
programming, reinforcement learning, and/or deep reinforcement learning to
design optimal or near optimal solutions.

Architect and develop new innovations, from design, prototyping and coding
through delivery to customers.

Demonstrate scientific eminence by filing patents and publishing the results
of your work in leading scientific journals and conferences.

Advocate for your ideas and collaborate with other research scientists and
engineers to design the best solution.

Work with enterprise customers around the world to deliver your solutions.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering,
Operations Research, or other related scientific discipline

Demonstrated ability to implement algorithms and models and apply them to real
world problems.

Ability to communicate complex mathematical concepts to less technical
audience

Proficiency in at least one major programming language (C/C++, C#, Java,
Python, etc.)

Demonstrated communication skills and software development skills in a
collaborative team environment

Proficiency in an optimization modeling language (e.g. AMPL, GAMS, AIMMS, OPL,
etc.) is desirable

Preferred Technical And Professional Expertise

* Background in optimization

Authorized to work in Israel or hold an applicable work permit required by the
Israeli law
